saw em again a year later in sf,and the place kept the house lights on the whole time they played...nice way to kill the atmosphere.

I remember when Ula wrote for Metal Maniacs ...in particular for a Seaweed cover article and he still snuck in a mention of Blasphemy...other times were love letters from readers asking to see a pic of their favorite "girl" writer (cuz of the name)...dude is class act and is up there alongside Ian Christe as the go to guy for metal credibility...is Ula on twitter? ...great post...

This was awesome. It brings back a lot of memories for me, and I feel that, even though now it is easier to buy the albums I want without wasting time "shopping", that something was lost. Maybe it is too easy for hardcore suburban teens from Peoria to get Dissection and Bathory albums? Anyways, this should be part of a book. Great stuff.

Johnny Justice: Well "funny" is certainly subjective. Personally I think when bands, or people, take themselves too seriously (especially in metal - black metal above all else) and then are stripped of their dignity or serious persona (facade) there's humor in there... however self/deprecating.

If you've been in a band, or worked in the music industry, sometimes you just have to laugh at the shortcomings/ridiculous happenings or you'll turn into a piece of shit that you've promised yourself never to become.

Anyway, thanks for the rest of the comments! (Roy - Mortiis is about due for his own post, haha! So much material to work with there. I know he's been tagged in a few posts earlier, check 'em out.)

Excellent post. Definitely brings out the geek on me. Got the Firestarter comp in my collection. Actually, the second copy I bought. The first one I gave away after a break up between me and black metal a few years ago. Just got to mention, a couple of weeks ago I stumbled into a mint Deathlike Silence copy of Burzum's s/t record at a store in Florence, Italy. It was going for 140 Euros. I regret not buying it. Bought an Imperator vinyl (Time Before Time)for 40 Euros instead. Dooooh!
