We here at Metal Inquisition are of the opinion that most of the greatest music ever created came out of Morrisounds Studios during the early 90s. Thanks in large part to the legendary production and engineering of Scott Burns those early Florida Death Metal bands helped to shape and define what the genre would become.
I love all kinds of death metal, but if I had to pick just one to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Florida Death Metal. And if I could only listen to one song from each of my favorite Florida Death Metal bands for the rest of my life I would come up with Metal Inquisition's Ultimate Florida Death Metal Mix. If you're a fan of Florida Death Metal, then you will love this. If you don't know anything about Florida Death Metal, then prepare to be schooled.

Metal Inquisition's Ultimate Florida Death Metal Mix:
1. Solstice - Transmogrified
3. Nocturnus - Destroying the Manger
4. Deicide - Satan Spawn, the Caco-Daemon
5. Death - Lack of Comprehension
6. Obituary - Chopped In Half
7. Atheist- And the Psychic Saw
8. Cynic - Uroboric Forms
9. Hellwitch - Viral Exogence
10. Brutality - Ceremonial Unearthing
11. Massacre - Cryptic Realms
12. Resurrection - Rage Within
13. Monstrosity - Imperial Doom
14. Malevolent Creation - Iced

Excellent Stuff,blasting into the past
All these songs are good songs. Even the proper Monstrosity song and all! Congrats on the taste!
This is breaking the law, as Judas Priest said.
Very nice mix! Except that damn Nocturnus tune sucks, sweet Jesus, surely Lake Of Fire would have been better??
That Solstice record is one of the only death metal albums I can still listen to. Shame they only made one.
man, solstice fucking ruled. send me a link to that whole album! awesome stuff.
"Destroying the Manger" over "Droid Sector"? That's the only real surprise here. Thanks dudes, this is a killer mix.

Good mix of bands! though I still prefer my old Swedish death metal. Desultory rules!
And finally, last album by solstice, pray, from 1995:

No Autopsy? :'(
Florida death is alright, but I still prefer the early 90's Stockholm scene.
Since they were already mentioned, both Desultory and Solstice reformed recently. Desultory is only playing their first two albums live, which is a really smart move.
True story: guitarist and founding member Larry Sapp of Brutality underwent a sex change.
Wow, I missed that about Desultory! It makes me feel glad that they are playing again, but it also worries me. Usually reunions suck and sometimes they are so bad that kind of ruin what you used to feel for the band. But in this case, they already fucked up with Swallow the snake and I still love them, so I think the reunion thing won't affect anything.
Autopsy were from California and I don't think they ever recorded at Morrisound.
That picture of Scott Burns. OOOOOOFAH! He's a middle age'd fatso.
Great mix. Florida and Sweden ruled my world from 88-95. The greatest era of Death Metal IMO.
you forgot to put a warning sticker saying "for best sound quality, please listen this mix exlusively on a car stereo"
Yeah, Scott Burns has gotten chubby, but I was too busy looking at the big-breasted hooker in the back to notice.
Out of curiosity, can Cannibal Corpse be labeled as "Florida death metal" even though they were a bunch of relocated hicks from Buffalo?
damn, that 1995 Solstice album is fucking great!! i had never hear it- definitely reminds me of Demolition Hammer with a big of Exhorder crunch, great stuff! awesome drumming, too, i think it's alex marquez?
yeah, I think he played drums in both albums.
No old school death metal mix would be complete without Chapel Of Ghouls.
Nice job!
I didn't think S.Burns looked all that different...now Trevor on the other hand. He looks like Skeletor's been hitting the haagen daas.
I think Scott Burns has faired better than the rest of that crew...check out this old pic.

Trevor exemplifies the kind of puffiness that can only be acheived from alcohol induced liver failure.
PS- I think this one deserves an "icecream cake" tag.
Re: Cannibal Corpse...
Old CC ain't from Florida, the first three albums anyway. That shit is straight NewYorkMetal.
1994, they got much closer with Rob Barrett joining.
With Corpsegrinder, they made the full transition.
Where the hell is Pat O'Brien from anyway?
great post!!! i am not so sure about the hellwitch mix. but who cares? pat had a hell of a great band. syzgial miscriancy was the shit. (hope i spelled it right!)
Speaking of chubbiness too many metal burgers can make you fat.

A lot of these bands weren't from Florida in the first place.
They all moved there after "Leprosy" and the debuts from Morbid Angel and Obituary, flipping burgers between recording sessions at Morrisound to make a living.
The Hoffmann bros still flip burgers nowadays, in their own grill.
chris:
kuma's is great, but the place stinks of hipsters. (note all the beardo bands they have burgers named after)
"True story: guitarist and founding member Larry Sapp of Brutality underwent a sex change."
He's now happily married to Scott Stapp, ex-Creed ;-)
Rob Barret wasn't from Florida he was part of the Buffalo scene when CC was but he moved to Florida sooner.
Whos that band in front of the sign for Morrisound.
"Chapel" sounds weird, almost as if it's in mono. fwiw I love Destroying the Manger. The intro part must be what it sounds like when traveling in one of those time machines parked in the dirt in front of Mike Browning's house.
Great info!I feel highly about it and adore learning more on this kind of topic.
